Click Lamp Ⓓ

At ARCh, architecture and design are understood as disciplines that evolve alongside society, responding not only to aesthetic and functional considerations, but also to the changing needs and circumstances of contemporary life. Click Lamp reflects this approach through a simple intervention in the everyday domestic environment.

Contemporary living is increasingly characterised by mobility. More people rent, move between homes and inhabit spaces over which they have limited control. Within these conditions, even the smallest domestic alterations can become unnecessarily complicated. Drilling into ceilings, replacing light fittings or calling an electrician often involves additional costs, permissions or modifications that may have to be reversed when moving out.

As a result, a bare light bulb hanging from a cable frequently remains unchanged. What was initially intended as a temporary solution becomes a permanent feature, limiting the possibility of personalising a space and making it feel like home.

Click Lamp was developed in response to this everyday condition. The project introduces a removable lampshade that transforms an exposed light bulb into a considered element of the interior without altering the existing electrical installation. The shade can be assembled directly around a hanging cable, requiring no tools, drilling, rewiring or technical assistance. Its construction is based on a single semicircular component, 3D printed twice from recycled plastic. By rotating one element 180 degrees, the two identical halves connect through an integrated snap-fit mechanism, forming a complete circular lampshade. The use of a single repeated component simplifies production and assembly while allowing the object to be easily disassembled and relocated.

Click Lamp is developed in two sizes, small and large, and two edge profiles, straight-cut and rounded. Its geometry remains consistent across the different variations, while an extensive selection of colours and patterns allows the object to adapt to different interiors and individual expressions. The removable nature of Click Lamp makes it particularly relevant to rented accommodation and temporary living environments. Rather than requiring permanent modifications to a space, the design offers a flexible alternative that can move with its user from one home to another.

Beyond its immediate function, Click Lamp considers the relationship between individuals and the spaces they inhabit. The possibility of personalising a domestic environment should not necessarily depend on property ownership or the freedom to undertake permanent alterations.

Through a minimal construction and a simple assembly process, the project demonstrates how a modest intervention can respond to broader social changes while introducing colour, character and a renewed sense of belonging into everyday life.
