Luce, the fallen angel, the morning star. This painting is inspired by a statue we encountered upon entering the Oratorio della Nobile, Primaria e Real Compagnia del Santissimo Crocifisso in Palermo, more commonly known as the Oratorio dei Bianchi. This oratory serves as a place for storing and restoring statues that no longer have a home, often coming from churches or palaces destroyed over time. Among these statues, we found one belonging to a XVII century Baroque collection. Although little is known about it, our interpretation is that it is a unique work, representing the fallen angel in its biblical beauty, without being demonised. A bearer of light and beauty who, having rejected that light and embraced the darkness, now remains in a perpetual position, covering itself and rejecting the light that blinds it.
