apartment Restoration
This renovation project involves a historic Italian apartment, long uninhabited, where the original layout required passing through one room to access another. To improve the flow, we introduced a wall to recess the bedroom, creating a corridor that now connects the living and sleeping areas, while also incorporating a small storage space. The bedroom was reduced in size to accommodate this new configuration, and to visually enlarge the narrow space, we chose to paint the frontal walls and ceiling in a soft pink. This choice enhances the room’s intimacy, preserves the apartment’s original character, and creates an optical illusion of length and depth. The bathroom design features a hidden door integrated into concrete cladding, providing privacy from the kitchen and living areas without disrupting the overall aesthetic. This elegant solution addresses the challenge of limited space near the entrance, concealing the bathroom door and adding a modern touch, without requiring extensive structural changes and while maintaining the budget. The custom kitchen seamlessly integrates into a TV unit, culminating in a cosy nook that faces the restored fireplace—the only original element preserved. The overall design of the apartment combines minimalist Northern European influences with Italian craftsmanship, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. With minimal structural adjustments, we focused on updating the interiors and furniture, achieving a harmonious balance between historical heritage and modern comfort.
